Down the back today....

Hazel wrote a beautiful post about her childhood garden...and her Dad...I really loved it...
Dad's and gardening seem to go hand in hand..I think having a Dad that spent time in the garden makes people like us ,that grow up with the passed down knowledge and love of all things 'growing'....
I always seem to have Dad there in my memories of Sunday afternoons with dirt, vegies,
bon fires..chooks...and all that other great stuff...
My Dad was a butcher, and I still remember things about his butcher shop, and he loved breeding Australian finches and parrots and had beautiful aviaries....but it is the gardening and the pride he had in producing his own fruit and vegetables that I remember most about him...
And it was the time I spent with him in the garden that I loved the most...
I can shut my eyes and see him exactly..standing 'down the back' with his hands on his hips, just looking.....as if it was yesterday...
Happy 80th Birthday Dad.....
if only you could be here today to come and stand in my garden with your hand on your hips...just looking...

What lovely memories you have of your dad. Sadly mine died the week before I turned 9 so I have very few memories of him.

Lots of things in your gathering basket!

Wishing you a wonderful 2012!

What lovely memories to have. I'm sure he's standing next to you admiring your beautiful garden Suzanne. He'd be very very proud. It's looking very productive and lush.
Happy New Year to you and your family, all the best for 2012. Karen :)

He's there...... in everything you plant, every inch of dirt that you dig, every piece of fruit and veg that you pick - he is there, and always will be because he is in your heart.......
